Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 10, 2026

PromptEditor.io (“PromptEditor”, “we”, “us”) is built to be local-first. We try to collect as little personal data as possible, and most of your data never leaves your browser unless you choose to sign in.

Data stored in your browser

When you use the editor without an account, your prompts, drafts, folders, variable profiles, workflows, version history, theme, and other settings are stored locally in your browser (localStorage and IndexedDB). This data stays on your device and is not transmitted to our servers.

Account & cloud sync

If you sign in with Google or GitHub, we receive and store your email address, name, and profile image to create your account. Prompts and related data you save while signed in are stored in our database (hosted on Neon, in the United States) so they can sync across your devices. You can delete individual prompts in the app at any time; to delete your account and associated data, contact us.

Your Anthropic API key

AI features (prompt improvement and inline testing) require your own Anthropic API key. Your key is stored only in your browser. When you use these features, the key is sent to our server solely to forward a single request to Anthropic on your behalf. We do not log, store, or retain your API key.

Shared prompts are public

When you create a share link for a prompt, that prompt’s title, content, and tags become publicly accessible to anyone who has the link, and these pages may be indexed by search engines. Do not include secrets, credentials, or personal information in prompts you choose to share.

Analytics & cookies

We use Google Analytics to understand aggregate usage. Analytics only loads after you accept it in the cookie banner; if you decline, no analytics cookies are set. You can change your choice by clearing your browser’s site data.

Service providers

We rely on the following third parties to operate the service:

  • Google and GitHub — authentication (only if you sign in)
  • Anthropic — model requests (only when you use AI features with your key)
  • Neon — database for signed-in users
  • Vercel — application hosting
  • Google Analytics — usage analytics (only after consent)

Changes & contact

We may update this policy from time to time; material changes will be reflected by the “last updated” date above. Questions about privacy? Reach us through our contact page.
